A LITTLE ABOUT US
he society strives for the progress and intellectual mastery of every undergraduate commerce student within the college, aiming to provide the students exposure to the industry and thereby helping them hone their skills. By organizing holistic events throughout the academic year, which focus on all aspects of modern-day management, the Society ensures that every student is taught practical lessons as it believes that education should never stop with books.
Born with the launch of the departmental journal “YouThink”, the society follows the motto ‘Dreams. Development. Destiny’. Dreams symbolize the aspirations and desires of a person. Development stands for the process of gradual advancement from the stage of aspiration to the stage of achievement of one’s dreams. Destiny refers to the fate of a person’s life.
Organizing a number of events throughout the year, the Society undertakes the responsibility of developing each and every managerial aspect in the student. Ranging from counselling programmes to panel discussions to management fests, the Society seeks to cover all facets and give the students of the college a platform to excel in, where they can test their knowledge and realize their true potential. InnovisionInnovision is the society’s first event for the academic year. It is a week-long session, consisting of various career oriented seminars conducted by a number of eminent personalities and institutions from various industries and backgrounds, which assist students to sharpen their skills and acumen, thereby aiding their personal and professional growth. This year had 13 seminars and workshops from TCC, Swiggy, EY, ToastMasters, Aswini Bajaj, and BSE Institute to name a few and was a resounding success, appreciated by students and professors alike.
InceptionInception is one of the premier events of the Xavier’s Commerce Society, designed exclusively for the first year students of St. Xavier’s College. It is a two-day extravaganza, hosting a series of challenging and promising rounds based on various corporate elements like marketing, human resource, finance, and crisis management followed by personal Interviews. The event is primarily focussed on giving freshers a first-hand experience into the corporate world, where they can compete against each other and make a name for themselves at the very onset of their college life, which can go a long way in nurturing their confidence and growth.
X-CalibreOne of the biggest events, X-Calibre is the intra-college management festival of the Society. The two-day event puts the students through a rigorous test of corporate skills, as they display their calibre in tackling tough situations, whilst competing against the very best in the college. Events such as Best Manager, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Human Resource, Public Relations, International Relations, Strategic Management, B-Quiz, and Finance, to name a few are among those organised.
X-PeditionWorking with the vision of the holistic development of each student, the Xavier’s Commerce Society organises visits to the factories of renowned companies each year, so that the students can understand the magnitude of work that goes on behind the scenes. Taking education beyond the classroom, X-Pedition aims to provide the students with an insight into reality, from the grassroots level of an organization, all the way to the top management culture.
IntelligentsiaIntelligentsia is the annual panel discussion of the Xavier's Commerce Society, where we aim to bring together eminent personalities from all across the country. The event features an interactive discussion on pertinent issues with other esteemed panelists from various spheres, not bound by any background, and the students of St Xavier's College, Kolkata. Intelligentsia also features the launch of the society’s annual journal, Youthink, which has been widely appreciated by its readers.
InsigniaInsignia, the annual management festival of St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Kolkata aims to provide an international level platform to the youth of today who aim to step into the shoes of high-profile corporates. The two day festival hones the skills of the participants by putting them through rigorous situations and a gives them a chance to carve out a niche in the corporate domain.The colleges that have been a part of Insignia in the past years include Shri Ram College of Commerce (Delhi), Lady Shri Ram College (Delhi), Christ University (Bangalore), Loyola College (Chennai), Symbiosis College (Pune) among others.
YouThink is the annual journal of the Commerce Society. The journal boasts of articles from students and professors ranging from the fields of politics and international relations to economics and entertainment. Every year the journal also contains interviews from luminous personalities across the globe, with Shah Rukh Khan, Lord Jeffrey Archer, Brett Lee and Smt. Sushma Swaraj being some of the most prominent names.
Youthink Volume XII was launched this year, the theme of which was Transcendence, the phenomenon of going beyond all existing limits and grasping one’s true potential. This edition of Youthink consisted of interviews by Mr. Sachin Tendulkar, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Mr. Amish Tripathi and Mr. A.S. Kiran Kumar.
